- Order Pulmonata: have lungs instead of gills: Land snails, slugs.
Slugs instead of snails in conifer forests: acidic soil does not support limy shells.

Class Chilopoda:
Centipedes: chitin is polysaccharide, low calcium, flexible.
Legs alternate when walking; 1st pair are poison claws. Hunt by touch/antennae.
Class Diplopoda:
Millipedes: exoskeleton high in CA, stiff. Exude chemical, cyanide.
Female lays eggs in nest mound of saliva & earth.
Class Crustacea
- Order IsopodaSowbugs: 2 antennae, 7 pairs legs, 1 pair uropods, telson fused to last abdominal segment.
gills on abdominal appendages . do not like to be flipped over.
Dogs will roll armadillo into water to open, but not pillbug.
Molt front half first - may see 2-tone pillbugs.
Brood pouch hold eggs.

Beetles: chewing, complete metamorphosis.
Larvae variable, can be legless grubs.
Acorn Weevil:
genus Curculio long-snouted drill into nut (Muppet Gonzo).
Conotrachelus short-snouted feed between cracks.
Legless larvae, pupate in soil.
Acorn Moth: lay eggs in damaged or sprouting acorns, pupate
inside acorn. Also Filbertworm. May also find internal gall of gall wasp.
